Above is a photo of some spectacular young women from the previously mentioned New York event. Milica (pictured on the end to my left) is from Serbia. She asked Under Secretary Stengel for advice on applying her experience as an intern here in New York to her future endeavors as a leader back in Serbia. He told her that she can support democratic values when she goes home, and applying those tenets, she can be a strong leader in any setting.

He made a number of points about sharing the universal values of American democracy and adapting them to suit one’s home country. He said the strength of democracy is that all peaceful points of view are allowed. He also said that wisdom and age don’t necessarily go together, that you actually know a lot in your youth, and you just need someone to take a chance on you. That is something for all of us to think about!
